Welcome! Thank you for your interest in golfing for a good cause; we appreciate your drive for community service and hope you will register for the 4th Annual Shanks Fore! Food Banks tournament.
The purpose of this golf tournament and dessert auction is to bring the community together in support of the food pantries serving the Fort Madison and Farmington areas. These two food pantries have experienced a huge increase in use over the past several years. The Fort Madison Food Pantry, which is open three days each week, serves over 500 families each month; they have experienced a 12% increase in the number of children served over the past year. The Farmington Food Pantry UMC is open two days each month and serves about 175 families, which is a 17% increase over last year. The number of families and individuals needing help from the food pantries increases every month. Volunteer hours and donations of food and other non-perishable items are critical to the continuing operation of both food pantries.
The physical, mental, and emotional consequences of hunger are very real and can be long-lasting, so these food pantries are important and necessary parts of our communities. By supporting the food pantries, we are supporting the health and dignity of our neighbors and friends, offering them a safety net and a second chance…a mulligan, if you will!
Donations of food and cash are happily accepted at both food pantries, and will also be accepted at the Shanks Fore! Food Banks event. 100% of your entry fees, all proceeds from the dessert auction, all canned food brought to the tournament, and all cash donations will be equally divided between both organizations.
Zion Mennonite Church, like many area churches, regularly supports the Ft. Madison Food Pantry and also works to alleviate hunger and address other human needs worldwide by supporting other Mennonite organizations with our contributions of time and money. We are very glad to have this opportunity to work together with our community, for the benefit of the whole community.
